Thesis Opportunities

We welcome MTEC students (MSc and MAS) who would like to write their master theses in our research group. The topics of the final thesis can be individually determined with us according to the students' interests together with the tutor and the supervising research assistant. Preferably, the thesis topic should be related to education and education systems. It is also the student’s responsibility to ensure that all program requirements are fulfiled before or during the writing of the thesis.

Master theses can usually be written in German or English.

We are also happy to supervise BSc and MSc theses of students from other departments of ETH and other universities if the topics can be linked to ongoing research in our group. All details regarding the duration of the work and other administrative details should be clarified by the students with the respective institution.

Every student interested in a thesis with us is asked to send an application (short biography, grade sheet, description of motivation and topic) directly to Dr. Maria Esther Oswald-Egg ().

Note: Thesis supervision meetings should be conducted in person rather than remotely. In-person meetings allow for more effective communication, better engagement, and a more productive discussion of research progress.

Pre-Requisites

• 1 page thesis proposal (clearly state the data and method you will use), please have a look at the chair's website for potential thesis topics
• Declaration of use of any AI tools like ChatGPT (if applicable)
• Timeline for starting and completion of the MAS thesis
