How can classroom and distance learning be combined efficiently?

The Chair of Education Systems at ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the apprenticeship platform Yousty, surveyed current events in Switzerland's apprenticeship companies over a period of three years since the start of the COVID 19 pandemic in April 2020. The latest survey in March 2023 was the last of 29 survey waves for the time being. The results show that apprenticeship staffing for the start of apprenticeships in the summer is even less advanced than in the previous year. In particular, the situation has worsened once again for occupational fields that already struggled to fill their positions last year. At the same time, according to the companies, it has become even more difficult to recruit suitable apprentices this year.

In addition, the companies state that the attractiveness of vocational apprenticeships has also declined somewhat since the beginning of the pandemic. Furthermore, a significant proportion of companies are still reducing the number of apprenticeships they offer for the start of the apprenticeship program in 2023. However, this particularly affects small companies, which frequently state that they do not offer apprenticeships every year.
