Productive Uzbekistan Visit Focuses on Skills Development and Collaboration

Our recent trip to Uzbekistan involved presenting research at a national conference, engaging in key discussions on education and tourism, and strengthening partnerships for future progress.

Our recent visit to Uzbekistan was a productive and insightful experience, marked by valuable engagements and discussions focused on advancing skills for the future.

We were honored to participate in the national conference on “Advancing Skills for the Future” in Tashkent, an exceptionally well-organized event by the Swiss Embassy, Helvetas, and the SDC in Uzbekistan. It was a significant opportunity for us to share the findings of our latest study on the supply side of the tourism and hospitality sector in Uzbekistan. Having participated in several national conferences through this collaboration, we are consistently impressed by the growing advancements in inter-institutional arrangements and remain committed to strengthening our partnership to cultivate a high-performing education system that benefits everyone.

Our time in Uzbekistan also included very fruitful meetings in Bukhara with Bukhara State University and Bukhara Technicum. We had productive discussions with Bukhara’s Governor regarding the necessary transformations in the education and employment systems to further energize the tourism sector. We greatly appreciated the support in interpreting the quantitative findings of our supply-side study on tourism and hospitality programs during these meetings.

In Tashkent, we engaged in an amazing discussion with Abdulla Abdukadirov and his team, delving into the purpose, strategies, and challenges of the Uzbekistan Education System and exploring pathways for future progress. We are grateful for this insightful exchange.

Furthermore, on the occasion of a Swiss delegation's visit to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Uzbekistan, Mr. Konstantin Obolensky, graciously hosted a reception in Tashkent’s “Magic City.” It was a particular pleasure to reconnect with Senator Isabelle Chassot, a highly valued former partner in shaping the Swiss education system.

Overall, our visit underscored the significant progress being made in Uzbekistan's education sector and reinforced our dedication to continued collaboration for a brighter future.
